What is renttoo?
Dutch rental platform for items
renttoo is a Dutch rental platform that connects individuals and businesses for renting out and renting items, from tools and party supplies to electronics and sports equipment. Everything except real estate.
How do I get verified?
Identity verification for renting and listing
Renters are verified via Stripe Identity (ID check and payment method linking). Owners are verified via Stripe Connect (ID check and bank account linking). This verification is legally required (KYC/KYB in accordance with the Wwft) and ensures all users are reliable and traceable.
Why do I need to be verified?
Why verification is required
Verification is legally required under the Wwft (Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorist Financing Act). Additionally, verification enables Renttoo Borgvrij: because all users are verified, renttoo can handle damage afterwards without requiring an upfront deposit.
Do I need to be 18 or older?
Minimum age for renting and listing
Yes. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. If a user turns out to be underage, the account is immediately deleted, all liability and guarantees under Renttoo Borgvrij are voided, and all pending bookings are cancelled.
Can I rent out as a business via renttoo?
Renting out as a business
Yes. Both individuals and businesses can rent out via renttoo. As a professional owner, you must list your Chamber of Commerce number in your profile and all tax obligations (VAT, income tax) are your own responsibility.
How can I delete my account?
Deleting your account
You can terminate your account in two ways: via the settings in your account (log in and delete account) or by sending a request to support@renttoo.nl. Note: upon termination, pending bookings are handled according to agreements and payment obligations remain. KYC/KYB data is retained for 5 years by Stripe in accordance with the Wwft. Transaction data is retained for 7 years in accordance with tax legislation.
How long is my data retained?

KYC/KYB verification data (via Stripe) is retained for 5 years in accordance with the Wwft. Transaction data is retained for 7 years in accordance with tax legislation. General user data (profile, listings, bookings) can be deleted 30 days after account deletion. After expiry of retention periods, personal data is destroyed in accordance with GDPR.
How can I unsubscribe from marketing?

You can request at any time to no longer be included in marketing materials by sending an email to support@renttoo.nl. renttoo will remove or anonymize all existing materials within 14 days, insofar as reasonably possible.
What should I do if my account is used without authorization?

If you suspect your account is being used without authorization, or if you suspect platform abuse, report this immediately to renttoo via email (support@renttoo.nl) or the Support Chat on the website.
How do I file a complaint?

You can file complaints via email (support@renttoo.nl) or via the contact form/Support Chat on the website. Include your full name, account details, a clear description of the complaint, relevant documentation and your desired resolution. renttoo sends an acknowledgment within 2 business days and aims for an initial response within 14 days and a final resolution within 30 days.
What if I have a dispute with an owner or renter?

In disputes, parties first try to reach a resolution via the platform's messaging system. renttoo can mediate upon request (not mandatory). For disputes about damage, loss or theft, Renttoo Borgvrij applies. For other disputes (such as product suitability or owner service), owner and renter are responsible themselves.
Can I go to court if I disagree with a decision?
Going to court over a dispute
Yes. renttoo's complaints procedure does not affect your right to submit a dispute to a competent court in the Netherlands. Dutch law applies exclusively to all agreements.

How does booking a product work?
Renting items via a rental platform
Search for a product on renttoo, select the desired rental period and place a booking request. Depending on the owner's settings, it works in two ways: with manual acceptance you wait for the owner's approval and pay afterwards. With direct booking you pay immediately and the booking is automatically established without the owner's approval.
When do I have to pay after placing a booking?
When to pay when renting items
Payment must be completed before the start date of your booking. For direct bookings you pay immediately at checkout. For regular bookings (with owner approval) you receive a payment link with a deadline after approval, depending on how far away the start date is. If payment is not completed on time, the booking expires automatically.
Can I cancel a booking as a renter?
Cancelling a rental period as a renter
Cancellation conditions are determined by the owner and may be stated in the product description. If no cancellation conditions are stated, you arrange this directly with the owner. Early termination during the rental period generally does not entitle you to a refund, unless you agree otherwise with the owner.
What if the owner cancels my booking?

If the owner cancels a paid booking, they can initiate a full or partial refund via the platform. Upon refund, the associated service fees (15%) are also refunded. renttoo earns nothing on cancellations. Any additional costs or compensation are arranged between owner and renter.
Can I extend the rental period?
Extending the rental period
Yes, but this must be coordinated with the owner via the platform. The additional period must be paid in advance. The extension counts as a new booking with the same conditions.
What if the owner doesn't respond to my booking request?

With manual acceptance, the owner is free to accept or reject a request. If the owner doesn't respond, you can withdraw your booking request and choose another owner.
Can I lend a rented product to someone else?
Lending a rented product to someone else
No. It is not permitted to sublet a rented product or allow third parties to use it.
What are my obligations as a renter?

You are obligated to use the product only for the agreed purpose, handle it with care, return it on time in the same condition (normal wear and tear excepted), and take photos upon receipt and return. In case of problems or damage, report this immediately to the owner.

You are obligated to place accurate product descriptions and photos, keep your availability and prices up to date, respond promptly to booking requests, deliver the product in good condition, and take photos at handover. Important: always verify that payment has been received before handing over the product, and verify the renter's identity.
Can I reject a booking request as an owner?
Rejecting a booking request as an owner
Yes, with manual acceptance you are free to accept or reject a booking request. You may not use discriminatory reasons for rejection. After acceptance, you are bound to the booking.
What is the difference between manual acceptance and direct booking?
Difference between direct booking and manual acceptance
With manual acceptance (default), as an owner you must approve each booking request before the renter can pay. With direct booking, the booking is automatically established after payment by the renter, without your approval needed. You can enable or disable direct booking per product.
What am I not allowed to rent out via renttoo?

It is not permitted to offer real estate, stolen or illegal goods, dangerous substances or weapons, and living animals.
Can I book multiple products at once?

Yes, renttoo has a shopping cart feature that allows you to book multiple items from one or more owners in one go.
How does the review system work?
Reviews and ratings after rental
After the end of a rental period, both owner and renter can rate each other with a rating of 1 to 5 stars and a written review. Reviews must be honest and truthful, relate to the specific transaction, and not contain offensive language or privacy-sensitive information.

What is Renttoo Borgvrij?
Protection against damage when renting out
Renttoo Borgvrij is renttoo's damage handling system. It is not insurance, but a method that combines verified users, professional damage assessment and payment requests to protect owners against damage, loss or theft. For proven damage, renttoo guarantees a direct payout to the owner up to €500 per incident (never exceeding the market value of the product).
Do I have to pay a deposit as a renter?
Renting items without a deposit
No. renttoo does not require an upfront deposit. Instead, renttoo works with Renttoo Borgvrij: all users are verified and in case of damage, this is handled afterwards. You only pay if damage is actually established.
How do I report damage as an owner?
Reporting damage to a rented product
Report damage, loss or theft within 7 days after the end of the rental period via the platform. You complete a form providing: a detailed description of the damage, before and after photos of the product (taken at handover and return), an estimate of repair costs or market value, and any relevant documentation such as a purchase invoice or repair quote.
What if I have my own insurance as an owner?
Own insurance and rental damage
If you have your own insurance that covers the damage, you must first contact your own insurer. Renttoo Borgvrij is secondary and only applies if your own insurance does not cover the damage, provides insufficient compensation (after deduction of excess), or if you have no own insurance.
What happens after I submit a damage claim?

renttoo assesses each claim objectively within 5 business days. The assessment is based on the quality of photos, timing, statements, realism of costs and the history of both users. There are three possible outcomes: approved (damage proven, will be compensated), partially approved (lower compensation based on evidence), or rejected (insufficient evidence or damage not attributable to the renter).
Can I as a renter object to a damage claim?
Objecting to a damage claim
Yes. After receiving the notification, as a renter you have 5 business days to file an objection via the platform. The objection must be written and substantiated (minimum 50 characters) and you can upload files for support. renttoo assesses the objection within 48 hours. After the objection assessment, the decision is final (subject to judicial intervention).
How do I pay as a renter for an approved damage claim?
Paying for damage as a renter
You receive a payment request with a bank account number, reference (claim number) and the total amount. You transfer the amount via bank transfer stating the claim number. The payment term is 7 days after notification (or after rejection of your objection).
What are the administrative costs for a damage claim?
Administrative costs for damage
For an approved claim, the renter pays administrative costs of 5% of the damage amount with a minimum of €5. These costs are included in the payment request. The owner receives the full claim amount. The administrative costs are not deducted from the payout to the owner.
How quickly is the owner paid for a damage claim?
Damage claim payout to owner
For claims up to €500, renttoo pays out within 2 business days after the expiry of the objection period (or after rejection of objection) to the owner, regardless of whether the renter has already paid. For claims above €500, renttoo first pays out €500 within 2 business days after the objection period. The remaining amount is paid within 2-3 business days after the renter has paid.
What is the maximum amount of a damage claim?

The renter's liability is limited to the market value of the product. The market value is the current market value at the time of damage, taking into account age, wear and condition of the product.
What if a renter doesn't pay after an approved claim?
Renter does not pay for damage
The renter receives a maximum of 2 payment requests with reminders via email. With each payment request, the administrative costs are increased by 5% of the claim amount (minimum €5). After 2 unpaid requests, the file is referred to a collection agency, the account is set to non-active and permanently deleted after 30 days. All collection costs are borne by the renter.
What does Renttoo Borgvrij not cover?
What is not covered by damage protection
Renttoo Borgvrij does not cover: normal wear and tear, damage due to incorrect use as described in the product description, damage not caused by the renter (external factors), damage due to force majeure (natural disasters, extreme weather, etc.), damage occurring after the rental period, indirect or consequential damage (loss of profit, turnover loss, reputational damage, etc.), and damage not reported within 7 days after the end of the rental period.
What if my objection as a renter is rejected?

After rejection of your objection, renttoo's decision is final. You then have 7 days to pay the amount. If you disagree, you can submit the dispute to a competent court.
What happens in case of fraud with damage claims?
Fraud in damage claims
It is expressly prohibited to submit false or exaggerated claims, manipulate evidence, pass off existing damage onto the renter, or forge documents. In case of fraud, your account is permanently blocked, all claims are refused and renttoo files a report with the police. Decisions regarding fraud are final.
How do I protect myself as an owner against damage?
Tips for owners regarding damage
Always take photos at handover (before and after photos are required). Verify that payment has been received before handing over the product. Verify the renter's identity. Report damage promptly (within 7 days after the end of the rental period). Ensure all information in the claim form is accurate and complete, and keep all documentation as evidence.

What does it cost to rent via renttoo?
Costs for renters
As a renter, you only pay the rental price set by the owner. renttoo charges no additional costs to renters.
What does it cost to rent out via renttoo?
Costs and commission for owners
renttoo charges 15% service fees on the rental price (including VAT) for each successful booking. This commission covers platform usage, payment processing, verification services, customer service and Renttoo Borgvrij. There are no subscription fees, no startup costs and you can place unlimited listings.
How do I pay as a renter?
Payment methods for renters
You pay via Stripe with credit card, iDEAL or other supported payment methods. The full rental price is paid upfront when placing the booking.
When do I receive my payout as an owner?
Payout of rental income
The first payout takes 7-14 days after your first successful transaction due to Stripe's risk assessment and verification. This is standard Stripe policy and cannot be accelerated. After that, payouts are automatically processed daily to your linked bank account.
How much do I receive as an owner after commission deduction?
Earning money by renting out items
For a rental price of €100, you receive €85 paid out. The 15% service fees (€15 including VAT) are automatically deducted by Stripe from the payout. Transaction costs, verification costs and other platform costs are already included in the 15% and are not additionally deducted.
Do I get an invoice?

Yes. renttoo provides both parties (owner and renter) an invoice. As an owner, you can view detailed information about income, payouts and commissions in the dashboard. Upon request you receive a copy of all transactions.
What about VAT?
VAT when renting out items
The 15% service fees are inclusive of VAT. renttoo remits the legally required VAT in accordance with Dutch tax legislation. If you rent out on a professional/business basis, all tax obligations (VAT, income tax) are your own responsibility.
What happens to the payment upon cancellation?

If an owner cancels a paid booking, they can initiate a full or partial refund via the platform. Refunds can be made multiple times, up to a maximum of the total booking price. Upon refund, the associated 15% service fees are also refunded. renttoo earns nothing on cancellations.
Do I have to pay tax on my rental income?
Paying tax on rental income
As an owner, you are responsible for all tax obligations arising from your rental income, including income tax and possibly VAT. renttoo does not withhold tax on your payouts and does not file tax returns on your behalf. We recommend contacting the Tax Authority (belastingdienst.nl) or a tax advisor if in doubt.
Are there hidden costs?
Hidden costs when renting or renting out
No. For renters: you only pay the rental price, no extra costs. For owners: you pay 15% service fees per successful booking. There are no subscription fees, no startup costs, no costs per listing and no hidden surcharges. The only additional charge that may apply to the renter in case of damage claims are administrative costs (5% of the damage amount, minimum €5).
